This is a painting of the old Calco Limestone factory on River Left in Downtown Salida.
I’ve always appreciated a town with a little grit. As Salida continues to grow and, it’s easy to forget the layers of history that built it. I don’t paint places like this to hold the town back — I paint them to remember where we came from.
I moved to Salida for the mountain access, but I stayed for the character. The mix of graffiti and blue sky, a little wealth and a little poverty — for a mountain town, it felt real. It had heart.
Change is inevitable, and it comes with both pros and cons. But knowing where a place has been matters. That history is part of its soul — and I hope to preserve small pieces of it on canvas.
