This is Creamsicle, a snowy owl.
Made famous this past year among birders for an inexplicable wash of orange in its feathers.
Theories ranged from environmental exposure—like aircraft de-icer runoff—to an unusual diet of shrimp (the same reason flamingos turn pink), to the possibility of a rare genetic mutation.
Over time, the orange faded. The mystery didn’t.
